This being the first home we've owned, we finally have lots of yard space to play with. One of the first things I decided I wanted to do was build some raised garden beds. I envisioned never paying for a vegetable all summer long and harvesting crop after crop of yummy goodness. Well, it didn't quite work out that way, but not for lack of trying! Between woodchucks, rabbits, beetles, and the funniest mini-crop (more about that later) I had slim pickings. But I learned a LOT about what to do differently next year! However, let's go back to the beginning of the project...
I scoped out the yard and found a perfect spot that gets a lot of sun throughout the day.
The next step was to mark off the beds with string.
We had a big debate about whether to use pressure treated lumber or not but we decided to go with it in hopes that it will last a little bit longer. We set off for Home Depot for the supplies.
Then, we picked a nice, sunny early spring day and got to work!
Thank goodness for a husband who likes to use power tools! We put those "feet" on so they would go into the ground and stabilize the beds.
Yes, I have pink gloves. They supported breast cancer AND looked pretty :) Too bad they didn't stay that clean for long!
All built and ready for dirt!
And here they are complete with stakes for peas and beans!
It was quite a project but we did it in one afternoon and felt very proud of ourselves when we were done!
